When I first started working in the storage industry, the standard and most popular colour for school lockers and steel cabinets was “coffee and cream”–a beige carcase with a chocolate brown door, a real throw back to the 70’s. Nearly every office I worked in or visited had a filing cabinet or a stationery cupboard in these shades. Nowadays of course there is a whole plethora of colours to choose from. The standard light grey or “silver carcase” tends to be the norm but a new era of more serene and subtle locker door colours is emerging and available at 3D Lockers.

Many schools in the past have traditionally chosen primary colours for their school lockers, blue, yellow or red, particularly primary schools who want to create a splash of bright vibrant colours to stimulate their pupil’s senses. Other schools have chosen house colours or special colours to match their school uniform or decor. But some schools are beginning to choose the colour of their lockers very carefully. So just how important is colour when it comes to school lockers? The Times published an article by Nicola Woodcock (Education Correspondent) “A riot of colour in class makes for rowdy pupils”which reported school headteachers in Norfolk and Newham were de–cluttering schools and making them more serene and calming environments. So called “angry”colours such as red are thought to be too much of a stimulus for pupils, contributing to poor behaviour, lack of concentration and under achievement. By replacing colours with neutral tones, wood or pastel colours, a calmer environment is created, allowing students to better focus.
