“A lock’s just a lock isn’t it?”

This question, or a variation, is something our team at 3D Lockers are often asked. Seems obvious, yet when you are installing lockers in a work, learning, health or other location, the answer is: “Not really”.

Just as you will select the most appropriate locker for your location and what they are to be used for, the same criteria should often be applied to the locks you use as well. To help you decide, here are some of the options you can consider:

• A standard camlock, supplied with a couple of keys, allows the person using the locker to take control of these keys. And occasionally, or often, lose them! Of course, you’ll have a master key so access can still be gained. These locks are also a cost-free option when you order our lockers. If necessary, replacements can be supplied and quickly fitted.

• The swivel latch lock-hasp and staple is also a cost-free option as above. Here, however, the user needs to secure the locker with a padlock. This could be useful if you wish to make using the locker completely the responsibility of the users. The locker is opened by a simple turn of the oval handle.

Both of the above options can lead to the frustration of lost keys and perhaps users not taking enough care with them. To avoid this, to encourage more thought and responsibility, the following option is also available…

• Coin or token locks – suitable for many different users of the same locker (the same principle as applies to supermarket trolleys). The key is held in the lock until the coin or token is inserted, and then that deposit is returned when the key is.

There is another useful option, this time key-free…

• Combination locks – these are available using both digital and number-roll settings. Both of these also have the advantage of giving each user the chance to set their own combination for added security. They are also ideal when multi-users can simply set a new combination each time the work, school, academy, university, gym – or other – locker is used.

It is useful, when purchasing lockers, to consider which system of locking will work best for your specific situation. Of course, our friendly and knowledgeable team are happy to help – a quick call to 01924 240291 is all it takes.
